A classic marquise has smooth, curved sides that meet at two points, like a boat or an eye. A Dutch marquise keeps the two points but breaks the curve into flatter facets along the sides, so the outline looks more geometric. Faceting varies by cutter: some use brilliant-style facets for sparkle, others use broader, step or rose-cut style facets for an old-world glow.
